Giuseppe (Joe) Del Vicario, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Del Vicario, Clinical Assistant Professor UBC has been an anesthesiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital for 40 years. He has extensive volunteer experience through surgical missions to Guatemala, the Philippines, and Uganda. He has participated in every H4H surgical mission to Guatemala since 2005 and has played key roles on the H4H board of Directors and Surgical Missions to Guatemala.
Gloria Garraway, RN
Gloria is a Clinical Nurse Leader on the Cardiac Surgery Intensive ward at St. Paul’s Hospital. Gloria has been active with H4H for many years, participating on the Surgical Committee. Gloria supports the surgical mission team as an organizer, leader, and clinical care: she has served as the H4H Surgical Mission’s Post-Anesthesia Recovery room head nurse for the past few years, ensuring patient safety and quality standards are met for optimal patient outcomes. Gloria has also contributed to H4H fundraising efforts at St. Paul’s Hospital. Gloria is well-respected by those who have the opportunity to work/volunteer with her as she consistently demonstrates a focused, calm, disciplined, and supportive approach with others.
Judy Rothwell, Treasurer
Judy is a professional accountant and previously a partner in the Vancouver office of KPMG International. She currently splits her time with her professional practice of providing financial, accounting and tax advice to individuals and businesses and volunteering with charitable non-profit organizations giving back to communities both locally and internationally. She has been a director and treasurer of a number of Canadian registered charities during the last 18 years. She has also led a number of short-term mission teams to Africa to work on various projects helping orphans and vulnerable children and youth.
Cheryl Satgunam
Cheryl obtained her Nursing Diploma from Douglas College. She has been an integral part of the Operating Room at the Royal Columbian Hospital since she completed her BsN at UBC in 2003. She has training in the Endovascular suite and is a Charge Nurse in the OR. She has been a volunteer with H4H since 2011 and has been the OR Nurse lead for the past 10 years.
Michelle Goecke MD, FRCSC, President
Dr. Goecke is a Clinical Assistant Professor UBC and is a General, Trauma and Breast Surgeon at Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminster. She has participated in H4H surgical missions every year since 2013.
Louise Peterson, Secretary
Louise is an RN of 34 years with extensive clinical experience in a variety of acute medical/surgical services. She has worked as a PACU RN for the past 25 years, at UBCH, VGH, and Cambie Surgical Centre. She was the PACU Clinical Educator at UBCH for 8 years, from 2012 to 2020. Louise has volunteered with H4H since 2019, and has greatly enjoyed her time with the organization. She brings enthusiasm, integrity, and compassion to her nursing practice.
Thomas Joseph Goetz MD, FRCSC
Clinical Professor Department of Orthopaedics University of British Columbia. Works at Saint Paul’s Hospital, Lionsgate Hospital. Sub-specialty interest in Upper Extremity and complex neuromuscular disorders. Head of Orthopedic Upper Extremity Research, and Fellowship program at Saint Paul’s Hospital. Dr. Goetz has passionately donated to H4H for many years and has volunteered with H4H on 6 missions to Guatemala.
Maria Ingram
Maria has worked as a perioperative nurse at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH), British Columbia since 2006 and has become Certified in Perioperative Nursing with the Canadian Nurses Association. As a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) and has been instrumental with the implementation of the In-House Perioperative Nurse Training Program in the Fraser Health Authority. Maria is currently working as a CNE at RCH for redevelopment supporting work for the interventional platform throughout the hospital interventional programs. In these areas she will assist with the implementation of the Perioperative and Invasive Procedures Accreditation Standards as well as Operating Room Nurses of Canada Association (ORNAC) standards where appropriate. Maria currently holds an honorary appointment to the role of MD Undergraduate Tutor/ Instructor with the Faculty of Medicine at University of British Columbia where she facilitates sterile technique and scrub sessions for medical student interns. Maria currently sits on the ORNAC board of directors in the Leadership position. Maria has volunteered on multiple occasions with Health For Humanity to provide surgical services to those in need in Guatemala. Maria is passionate about perioperative nursing and collaborating with like-minded people to continue to provide quality service to others.
