Cheryl Davies, MEd, RN – Co-Chair
Cheryl is currently the Chief Operating Officer at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, the largest maternity hospital in Canada and the only facility in BC devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and their families. She has over 20 years experience in women’s health as a nurse, educator and executive leader, in both community and hospital settings. She has a wealth of board director and community development experience. She joined Health for Humanity in 2005, and has participated in several health missions in nursing, logistics and team leadership.
Joe Del Vicario, MD, FRCP(C)
Joe is an anesthesiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital who has extensive volunteer experience through surgical missions to Guatemala, the Philippines and Uganda. He has participated in every H4H surgical mission to Guatemala since its inception, as well as in an H4H mission to the Philippines. Joe is the Chair of our Surgical Mission Committee and Medical Lead of the Guatemalan surgical missions.
Gloria Garraway, RN
Gloria is a Clinical Nurse Leader on the Cardiac Surgery Intensive ward at St. Paul’s Hospital. Gloria has been active with H4H for many years, participating on the Surgical Committee. Gloria supports the surgical mission team as an organizer, leader, and clinical care: she has served as the H4H Surgical Mission’s Post-Anesthesia Recovery room head nurse for the past few years, ensuring patient safety and quality standards are met for optimal patient outcomes. Gloria has also contributed to H4H fundraising efforts at St. Paul’s Hospital. Gloria is well-respected by those who have the opportunity to work/volunteer with her as she consistently demonstrates a focused, calm, disciplined and supportive approach with others.
For the past 15 years Karen has been the Principal consultant of K. Harrison & Associates. She has extensive experience in strategic planning. She is also a certified executive coach and human resources development professional. Karen is a member of the Rotary District 5040 Strategic Planning Team. In this role she travels around BC to help Rotary clubs create annual strategic plans. Karen is the Chair of the our Fundraising Committee.
Connie Huang, CPA, CGA – Treasurer
Connie has a distinguished career in accountancy and a strong record of volunteer service, including her valued involvement with various CGA Chapters, Canadian Assisted Travel Society and the Surrey Food Bank. Connie volunteers because it continuously reminds her about cooperation and compassion, and that life has so much to offer if we remember to look beyond ourselves.
Caitlin Johnston, MSc-PPH – Co-Chair
Caitlin is a Program Manager at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. Caitlin has extensive board director experience and is current President of the Board of U-Tena Arts and Education Society, a Canada/Kenya partnership focused on reproductive and sexual health education using non-literature based methods. Caitlin is a PhD student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University.
Mike Morton, MD, FRCP(C)
Mike was founding president of H4H. He is an anesthesiologist with experience in hospital administration and a keen interest in international health. In addition to serving as the Medical Lead for several H4H surgical missions, he has provided anesthesiology services for H4H missions in both Guatemala and the Philippines.
Carmen Wiechers, CFE
Carmen, a certified fraud examiner, has worked in the Retail Loss Prevention Industry for over 20 years in a multi-unit capacity. She is currently working as Western Canada’s Regional Loss Prevention Manager for Value Village – a company she chose based on how employees are valued, its “give back to the community” approach and its responsibility to the environment. Carmen enjoys being in the trenches educating employees, preventing and investigating fraud. Her current position affords a healthy work-life balance allowing her to invest more time with family, and get involved with non-profit associations. Carmen has served on the Board of Directors of two associations since 1998 holding various positions. Carmen is a translator for our surgical missions.
